UCF Research Week 2008

CONCERNED ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT? WORRIED ABOUT WATER?

Then experience the latest University of Central Florida research in these areas and more during the third annual Research Week celebration on campus.

From a simulation of the changing Everglades to tips on green landscaping and home design,
experts at UCF will present their research on environment related themes March 31 – April 4. Research Week started three years ago to introduce the community to research conducted by students and faculty.

In 2008 faculty and students from across campus will present their work in an exciting series of events throughout the week. Check out the Research Week website for updates!

SOME OF RESEARCH WEEK'S EXCITING EVENTS

MONDAY, MARCH 31st
  • AN OVERVIEW of research at UCF’s Florida Solar Energy Center.
  • PRESENTATION of UCF’s Master Plan and Environmental Sensitivity.
  • HANDS-ON DEMONSTRATIONS, including a tour of UCF’s Green Roof, a living garden on top of the Student Union that not only protects and beautifies the roof, but cuts energy costs as well.
  • SIMULATION of the formation, destruction and restoration of the Florida Everglades presented by the interdisciplinary team that created it.
  • RECEPTION for nationally and internationally recognized student researchers.
TUESDAY, APRIL 1st
  • PANEL DISCUSSION by Central Florida leaders on critical conservation issues facing the region.
  • GRADUATE STUDENT PRESENTATIONS on global climate change and the effects on Florida’s ecosystems.
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 2nd
  • SCHOLARSHIP of Teaching and Learning for faculty.
THURSDAY, APRIL 3rd
  • GRADUATE RESEARCH FORUM. Poster displays representing UCF’s diverse colleges and disciplines. Students will showcase their research and creative projects and receive valuable feedback from faculty judges. Awards for best poster in each category are given and all participants receive recognition.
FRIDAY, APRIL 4th
  • SHOWCASE OF UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH EXCELLENCE (SURE). Undergraduate students who are engaged in research and creative activities will showcase their research in a poster forum.
